December 1, 2011 – Westover, W.Va. – A woman was charged with DUI after crashing her vehicle into a house on Sunday, November 27.
WBOY reports that the accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on Dunkard Avenue. Officials said the Sharnahkay Nelson, 26, was driving on the roadway when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a house.
No one in the house was injured in the crash.
Nelson received treatment for unknown injuries following the crash.
Police said that Nelson was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. She had been charged with DUI.
A power and utility was damaged in the accident. In addition, Dunkard Avenue was blocked to traffic for several hours afterwards while crews worked to clear the scene and replace the damaged power and utility pole. All lanes on Dunkard Avenue have since been reopened.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
