Jim Griffin- West Virginia Black Heritage Festival
Jim Griffin of the West Virginia Black Heritage Festival Inc. was selected as the August 2015 winner of the Celebrating Volunteers awards program. Mr. Griffin is being celebrated for his dedication and hard work to the great success of the yearly festival. As the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Black Heritage Festival, Jim has worked tirelessly to put forth it’s mission, “to promote the African-American experience while addressing the many milestones that our forefathers have made since the Emancipation Proclamation.” During the yearly event, the Black Heritage Festival creates a celebration of heritage while providing a positive influence on the youth of our community.
Each year, Jim, along with many volunteers, put together an event with national prominence. Scheduled to participate and entertain in this year’s festival include The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edward and The Intruders. The Black Heritage Festival has transformed and grown from it’s original beginnings over 15 years ago as the Emancipation Proclamation Celebration, however it’s purpose has remained and each year thousands of participants from all across the state come to Clarksburg for this yearly celebration.
“I am honored to present the August Celebrating Volunteers award to Jim Griffin.” Tim Miley, owner of The Miley Legal Group, stated. “Every year, I look forward to the Black Heritage Festival and the community involvement it represents. I appreciate the hardwork it takes to put together this large event each year and am glad we can recognize such an important role model.”
“I appreciate the honor that The Miley Legal Group and WBOY has bestowed on me and the Black Heritage Festival,” Jim Griffin said. “To be recognized for my work is never a goal, but the support this award provides allows for the continuation of our mission as an organization.”
The Miley Legal Group and WBOY's Gretchen Ross are proud to make him the August awardee. His spotlight does not end here, you will soon find a link to his interview with Gretchen Ross on WBOY.
