Age: 79 (80th Birthday on June 29th)
Family: Husband, Russell (deceased), 2 sons (Rusty & Jimmy) and one daughter-in-law (Susan)
What was the first job you ever had? I waitressed in the evenings, during my sophomore year in high school, at Tilly and Abes Restaurant in Shinnston (the current Orioles Club).
What is your fondest memory with your husband? When my husband was in the service, I went to Glen Burnie, MD with him and worked at the A&P there for a year and a half.
What is the biggest change in society that you have seen? People seem friendlier now. When I was younger, I was a lot quieter so that may have something to do with it but it seems that people are much friendlier to me now.
What historical event do you remember the most in your lifetime? When I was 12 years old, there was a tornado in Shinnston. It was very scary for everyone and it went through where I live now.
Name something that you are really proud of and why? My two sons because they have grown to be such great men.
When people look back at your life, how do you want to be remembered? I want to be remembered as being friendly and for making cookies for everyone.
Note: Waneta’s 80th Birthday Celebration is June 26, 2011 from 2:00-4:00pm at St. Ann Parish Hall in Shinnston, WV with all family and friends invited. It will be a wonderful time celebrating a terrific lady!
