April 2018 Celebrating Volunteers Winner

Aimee Tallman a Volunteer at

Mon Health Medical Center

Volunteers have become a cornerstone of medical facilities across the state.  As with most other facilities, the volunteers at Mon Health Medical Center run patient service operations, the gift shop, visit with patients and have become a significant force in raising much-needed funds to provide updated equipment for the facility. They serve as ambassadors between the hospital and the community.  They provide comfort and support to patients and families when they need it the most.  Volunteers are critical to the smooth operation of the facility.  Aimee Tallman is one of those volunteers at Mon Health and her dedication to her community, and the hospital is why she was selected as this month's Celebrating Volunteer Winner.

Aimee serves in many capacities as a volunteer at Mon Health.  She provides services at the information desk and as a warm and friendly face when patients enter the facility.  As a volunteer, Aimee assists patients and visitors who contact the hospital searching for information.  After seven years, she has become a local expert of sorts on the services offered at Mon Health and the most efficient way to get to where you need to be.

"Along with her regular responsibilities, Aimee has been a valuable member of the Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary's Annual Ball of the Year fundraiser committee, including being a former chair of the committee," stated Emily Gallagher of Mon Health Medical Center.  "The work of volunteers is immeasurable, and Aimee is an essential part of the team."

Mon Health Medical Center Volunteer          Mon Health has some ways both adults and students can volunteer to serve the community.  Volunteers commit over 100 hours throughout the year.  Volunteers can be found in the Information Booth, the Gift Shop, Material Distribution Center, Mon Kids Child Development Center, Patient Chart Assembly, PathFinder and throughout each area of the hospital.  Hundreds of patients, staff, and guests rely on volunteers to get them where they need to be and the information they must have.

"Watching the volunteers at Mon Health work was eye-opening.  The important functions that they do for the community only highlights the need for their services," Marisa Matyola of WBOY stated.  “Those volunteers at the hospital touch the lives of every patient that walks through the door, ensuring that they receive the care and support they need whatever the reason.  If not for Aimee and her fellow volunteers, patients, and their families may not get the warm and friendly experience they so need during difficult times."

"After having recognized volunteers working in various organizations throughout our region, I have continually been amazed at the amount of time West Virginians spend volunteering and what they have accomplished through their service," said Tim Miley, owner of The Miley Legal Group.  “The volunteer work Aimee does at Mon Health is an example of what I see all across North Central West Virginia, people helping people and I can only hope it encourages more to get involved."

celebrate volunteers logo     The Celebrating Volunteers awardees receive public recognition for not only themselves but their organization.  They also receive a $500 contribution to the organization they represent in their name.  Marisa Matyola of WBOY TV and Tim Miley of The Miley Legal Group work together to select the awardees from the many nominations received from the public.   The volunteer selected will have demonstrated their commitment to an organization through volunteerism and support.

“I am an avid supporter of volunteerism in our communities,"  Miley stated.  "The Celebrating Volunteers program is a way that we can recognize the hard work and dedication of individuals across our region.”

We look forward to recognizing a number of worthy individuals while giving their organizations a part of the spotlight.  The program will continue recognizing volunteers throughout the coming year.  In order to nominate a volunteer to receive this award, please click on the Celebrating Volunteers logo.
