An IKEA crib mattress recall announced in January 2015 involves five different crib mattress models, all of which are in their VYSSA series. The recall includes a total of roughly 169,000 VYSSA style crib mattresses.
They are being recalled because of the risk of entrapment. There have been at least two reports of infants getting trapped between the mattress and the end of the crib.
Is your baby’s crib mattress under recall?
The following are the five IKEA mattress models under recall.
The recall only applies to mattresses manufactured on or before May 4, 2014. You can locate the model and manufacturing date of your crib mattress on the mattress cover. Also, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) notes, “A gap between the mattress and crib ends larger than two finger width is an indication of the defective mattress.”
What To Do If Your Mattress is Under Recall
If your mattress is under recall, safety is your primary concern. The CPSC advises: “If any gap is larger [than the width of two fingers between the ends of the crib and the mattress], customers should immediately stop using the recalled mattresses and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or a full refund.”

IKEA is bound by law to remedy any defective or poorly designed cribs. If a child is injured or killed because of the company’s mistakes or negligence, parents may be able to hold the company liable by filing an injury or wrongful death claim.
