Do you comparison shop for everything? Do you shop around to get the best deal? If so and you are looking for an attorney, that may not be a good idea. Lawyers and their services are not mattresses or cars, it is never a good idea to go with the cheaper option.
Why shouldn’t you hire the cheapest attorney?
Why not? You ask.
Well, there are quite a few good reasons and all revolve around how your case is handled and how hiring the cheapest lawyer may adversely affect the outcome of your claim.
Most personal injury lawyers, including us, base their fee on the results of the claim. How much the lawyer gets depends on how much you get. However, some attorneys will discount their fees to get your business.
We at The Miley Legal Group are not “discount attorneys.” We are also not “expensive” attorneys. Each case we take is evaluated for the amount of fee we deem is appropriate. As such, when someone calls our office to just hear what our fee is, we never provide them with that information. Some get mad and hang up on us, but you should understand that in the end it is better for you if we have time to evaluate your case before you get quoted a fee.
Discount accident attorneys can harm your claim.
Discount attorneys can do more harm to your claim than good. In most instances, if you hire a cheap attorney, you will not only get “cheap” service, but you may end up with a bad settlement. Discount attorneys generally do not take the time needed to properly evaluate your claim and review all of your information. They become too busy trying to push cases back out the door as quick as possible, potentially missing not only additional insurance proceeds available, but medical bills and other material that should be included in your claim to the insurance company. You probably will be lucky to even speak with an attorney throughout your case.
You need an attorney that will take time with your claim and make sure that every detail is looked at. Some insurance claims can be difficult depending on your type of injury, your medical treatment and what types of insurance is available. You never want to be stuck with a “discount” attorney that misses a deadline or has no true understanding of the process.
What kind of injury lawyer do I want?
A truly great lawyer will begin your case by gathering details and building a relationship with you to better understand your claim and the impact the injury has had and will have on your life. Your attorney and legal assistant should speak with you throught the process, letting you know what is happening at each step. The more information you have, the better your claim will go as you can make the best decision for you.
You want a lawyer that will help you find a way to get you back on your feet and help put the pieces of your life back together. Discount attorneys are only after one thing and it is not to ensure that you have the treatment you need to recover.
"You get what you pay for"
So, the next time you are calling around to get the best deal from the attorney who has the cheapest fees, remember, the old adage that “you get what you pay for,” and in the injury claim world, you want the best person to handle your claim, and that is generally not the cheapest option.
