Young Boy Injured in Bicycle Accident in Huntington

May 24, 2011 - Huntington, W.Va. - A young boy was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car while riding his bike.

WBOY reports that the bicycle accident in Huntington occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of 19th Street and Charleston Avenue. The boy was riding his bike in the roadway when he was struck by a car.

The boy was injured in the bike accident and had to the transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment. Officials said the boy suffered only minor injuries.

The identity of the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy has not yet been released. The young boy's identity is also unknown.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. No further injuries were reported.

There has been no official statement made as to whether or not charges will be filed in connection with the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
