Young Boy Hospitalized after Bicycle Accident in Hamlin

May 10, 2011 - Hamlin, W.Va. - A young boy was sent to the hospital Thursday when he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Lincoln County.

WBOY reports that the bicycle accident in Hamlin occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Two Mile Road. West Virginia State Police said the 12-year-old boy was riding his bike on the roadway when he was hit by a vehicle.

The boy was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment. Officials said the boy's injuries are not life threatening, but did not specify what types of injuries were suffered.

The vehicle in question was driven by a 29-year-old woman from Branchland. The identity of the young boy was not released.

According to an official news release, no charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon.

Further details concerning the accident have not yet been released. The bike accident is under ongoing investigation. All further investigations are being handled by West Virginia State Police in Hamlin.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
