WSAZ reported a total of 7 victims were harmed in the accident, which took place around 3:30 a.m. on the West 17 Street exit ramp for I-64.
According to police, a pickup truck driven by Andy Withrow, 29, went up the wrong way on the exit ramp, slamming into a SUV carrying a family of 5. The 2 occupants of the pickup were confirmed dead on site while all members of the family were transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the SUV, Kristina Dudan, along with her daughter Alena and son Casey were in the hospital for about a week. Her husband Michael and other son Jacob are still listed with serious injuries and are being observed.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
