Woman Injured in SUV Rollover Crash on I-79

May 10, 2011 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - One person was hospitalized Monday afternoon when her SUV overturned on Interstate 79.

WDTV reports that the SUV rollover crash on I-79 occurred near Exit 119 South. The SUV was traveling in the third lane of the interstate when its driver lost control, causing the SUV to crash into the rear of the car driving in front of it.

The car began to spin on impact and traveled backwards through the far lane of the interstate.

The SUV crossed two lanes of traffic before it crashed into an embankment. It then slid down the embankment where it hit a pile of dirt, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The woman driving the SUV had to be transported to United Hospital Center immediately following the rollover accident. Her injuries have been reported as not life-threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle was said to be OK.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by Clarksburg Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
