Woman Ejected from Car in Head-On Collision in Fairmont on Route 250

May 5, 2011 - Fairmont, W.Va. - Two people were sent to the hospital Tuesday following a head-on collision in Fairmont.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday on Route 250 close to the Par Mar in Fairmont. According to sheriff's deputies, a car was headed south on Route 250 when it collided head-on with a northbound SUV.

The car began to spin, causing a female passenger in the car to be thrown through the windshield of the vehicle.

The woman had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. A man who was also in the car at the time of the accident was taken to Ruby Memorial as well. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash. The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released. The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
