Wilsonburg Motorcycle Accident Leaves 1 Hospitalized

July 21, 2011 - Harrison County, W.Va. - One person was sent to the hospital after a coal truck and a motorcycle collided in Wilsonburg.

According to a report from WBOY, the accident occurred early Wednesday evening on Gregory's Run Road in Wilsonburg. The motorcyclist was travelling northbound on the roadway when it crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic in an attempt to pass a vehicle. The motorcycle then crashed head-on with an oncoming coal truck.

The motorcycle driver was injured in the accident and had to be flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. He is said to be in serious condition. The driver of the coal truck was uninjured. Their identities have not been released.

An accident reconstructionist was called to the scene of the accident for further investigation. Officials from the Reynoldsville Fire Department and Harrison County EMS were also on the scene in response to the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
