West Virginia Consumer Alert: Outer Edge Snow Bikes Recalled

February 14, 2011 - Parents who purchased an Outer Edge Snow Bike for their children during the 2010 holiday season should be aware of the latest product recall by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

On February 8, 2011, the CPSC announced a voluntary recall of 2 models of the Outer Edge snow bikes produced by Canadian manufacturer Tech 4 Kids Inc. The 2 models included in the recall are the yellow and black Snow MX-Ski-Doo model and the blue and black Snow MX-X Games model.

Both bikes have been found to have issues with the front ski cracking or breaking, causing the bike to come to an abrupt stop. This produces a falling hazard for riders who can be thrown forward from the bike. So far, 3 incidents have been reported in which children fell off their bikes and were injured. One incident required the child to receive stitches while another resulted in a shoulder dislocation.

The defective bikes were sold at Costco, Walmart, Amazon.com and sporting goods stores between September 2010 and January 2011 for approximately $150. Consumers who purchased an Outer Edge snow bike should stop use immediately and return the bike to the store where it was purchased for a refund.
