West Virginia ATV Owner Alert: 29,000 KingQuad ATVs Recalled

Posted on Mar 31, 2011

March 31, 2011 - Owners and riders of all-terrain vehicles (ATV) are being warned of a product recall involving more than 29,000 ATVs across the country. ATV riding is a popular recreational activity in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and throughout our state.

The American Suzuki Motor Corp. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced the voluntary recall of defective Suzuki KingQuad ATVs owing to an issue with poorly manufactured fuel tanks. Reports show that the plastic fuel tanks on the ATVs are subject to leaks, posing a significant fire hazard.

American Suzuki has heard of 19 cases of fuel leakage because of the manufacturing defect in the recalled ATVs. So far there have been no reported injuries in connection with the recalled Suzuki ATVs.

Listed below are the Suzuki KingQuad ATV models that are included in the nationwide recall:

  • 2008 to 2010 LT-A450X models;
  • 2009 to 2010 LT-A500X models;
  • 2008 to 2010 LT-A750X models; and
  • 2011 LT-A500X and LT-A750X (manufactured before Dec. 11, 2010).

You can identify a recalled ATV by the phrase "Suzuki KingQuad" on the right and left sides of the fuel tank casing. The model numbers can be found on the right and left lower side panels near the footrest.

If you own a recalled Suzuki KingQuad ATV, stop using it until you are able to contact your local Suzuki ATV dealer to arrange a time for a free repair. If you own a 2011 LT-A500X or LT-A750X, you should call your dealer to see if your ATV is included in this recall. In the meantime, the CPSC remains interested in hearing from consumers who may have been affected by this all-terrain vehicle recall.
