West Hamlin Single-Car Crash Leaves 1 Dead

June 15, 2011 - West Hamlin, W.Va. - A woman, in her late 30's, was killed early Monday morning when her vehicle overturned in a creek in West Hamlin.

According to a report from WBOY, the car crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. on Upper Mud River Road in West Hamlin. Melissa Jane Strother, 39, of Lincoln, was driving her vehicle on the roadway when she somehow lost control, leading her vehicle to crash into a nearby creek where, later, Police troopers found the vehicle upside-down.

Strother suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

There were passengers in Strother's car as well, but none of the passengers were reported injured in the car crash. The identities of the passengers have not yet been released. State police have revealed that alcohol and other drugs were related to the cause of the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
