Two Injured in Head-On Collision in Marion County When Vehicles Collide in Tunnel

June 30, 2011 - Marion County, W.Va. - Two people were injured this morning when two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision in Marion County.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 9:45 a.m. on Saaps Run Road. According to deputies of the Marion County Sheriff's Department, a truck was exiting a tunnel as a car was entering it. The drivers failed to see one another and the two vehicles collided head on.

Both drivers were injured in the crash. One had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment and is said to have suffered non-life threatening injuries. The second driver received minor injuries in the crash.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released.

Deputies said that neither of the drivers will receive citations for the accident.

Investigations connected with this accident are being handled by deputies of the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
