Tucker County Car Crash Kills 1

June 28, 2011 - Tucker County, W.Va. - A young man was killed Friday night when his vehicle crashed near the Tucker-Preston county line.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 9 p.m. on Route 219, about 5 miles from Thomas. Deputies from the Tucker County Sheriff's Department said that Lucas Wayne Bolyard, 20, of Tunnelton, was driving northbound on the roadway when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

Bolyard was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Only a single vehicle was involved in the accident and there were no other passengers reported to be in Bolyard's vehicle. No further injuries were reported in connection with this crash.

Emergency response crews from the Thomas, Davis, and Mt. Grove volunteer fire departments were on the scene Friday night to help investigate the accident. Officials said they believe excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash. The accident is under ongoing investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
