Tractor Trailer Crash Blocks Traffic in Barbour County

February 10, 2012 – Barbour County, W.Va. – A tractor trailer was involved in an accident that caused major traffic delays on Wednesday, February 8.

WDTV reports that the accident happened early Wednesday morning on Route 33. Officials said that the tractor trailer was travelling in the westbound lanes of traffic when its driver lost control of the vehicle. The truck then slid off of the roadway and crashed on the median.

Whether or not anyone was injured as a result of this accident is unclear at the moment. The truck driver’s identity has not yet been released to the public.

Reports do not indicate that any other vehicles were impacted by the accident other than causing road back-up for a few miles. Traffic on Route 33 was slowed for some time following the crash while crews worked to extricate the truck from the median.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
