Tanker Truck Crash in Bridgeport Injures 1

June 14, 2011 - Bridgeport, W.Va. - One person was hospitalized Sunday morning following a tanker truck accident in Harrison County.

According to the news story on WBOY, the accident happened shortly before 11 a.m. on Interstate 79 near the 123 mile marker, in Bridgeport. The tanker truck was driving southbound on the interstate when its driver lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle flipped onto its side which spilled the load of brine water it had been hauling out onto the roadway.

The driver of the tanker was injured in the accident and had to be transported to United Hospital Center, where he/she is being treated for minor injuries. The identity of the driver has not yet been revealed.

Two lanes on Interstate 79 were closed for some time following the accident as emergency response crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined as it is still under investigation by the Bridgeport Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
