SUV Flies into House in Charleston, Driver Charged with DUI

July 29, 2011 - Charleston, W.Va. - A man suffered minor injuries when his vehicle crashed into a house Tuesday morning. The man now faces DUI and other charges.

WSAZ reports that the accident happened when Zachary Love, 21, crashed his SUV into a wall and a parked car on Gordon Drive in Charleston. Love's vehicle then flew into the air and crashed into a house before it landed on top of another vehicle.

Steve Dryer, a resident of the house that was hit, said he heard the explosion-like impact and went to the front of his house to investigate. He found Love's SUV in his backyard and the entire front portion of his house was pushed inwards.

Love was transported to a local hospital for treatment on minor injuries.

Officials said that Love was under the influence of drugs and speeding at the time of the accident. He has been charged with DUI accompanied by several other charges, including reckless driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
