Single-Vehicle Car Accident in Barbour County Kills 1

July 22, 2011 - Barbour County, W.Va. - A single-vehicle accident in Barbour County left a person dead Wednesday night.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 7 p.m. Wednesday night, on Union Road. According to officials on the scene, a pickup truck was travelling on the roadway when its driver evidently lost control of the vehicle causing it to crash into a road bank.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Bretsel Bolton, 59, of Philippi, was taken to Broaddus Hospital immediately following the accident. Broaddus was later pronounced dead in the hospital.

The pickup truck was reported to be the only vehicle involved in the accident and there were no passengers in the vehicle. No further injuries or fatalities have been reported in connection with this accident.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined as the accident is under ongoing investigation. All further investigations are being handled by the Barbour County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
