Sheriff’s Deputy Hospitalized after Cross Lanes Car Crash

June 24, 2011 - Cross Lanes, W.Va. - A deputy of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department was injured Tuesday when his vehicle was rear-ended.

WSAZ reports that the crash occurred in the afternoon on Goff Mountain Road in Cross Lanes. According to investigators on the scene, Lt. Robbins was on duty at the time of the car crash. A pickup truck came up behind him and crashed into his cruiser.

Robbins was injured in the crash, suffering a head injury, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. There is no word as to his current medical condition.

The identity of the driver of the pickup truck has not yet been released. Whether or not charges will be filed in connection with the car crash is unknown.

The cause of the crash remains to be determined as it is under ongoing investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
