Rainy Weather Blamed in I-79 Truck and Car Accident

April 20, 2011 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - Rainy spring weather was the culprit in a morning crash that sent one person to the hospital with injuries. The I-79 truck and car accident occurred Tuesday morning in Harrison County.

WDTV reports that the accident occurred at about 9 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 79 close to the 121 mile marker. A blue car was traveling southbound on I-79 when it hydroplaned, causing the driver to lose control.

The vehicle hit a concrete divider and began to spin. It was then T-boned by a tractor trailer.

The woman, 28, who was driving the blue car was injured in the crash. She was taken to United Hospital Center and officials said they expect her to make a recovery.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the accident.

The identities of those involved in the crash have not yet been released.

Clarksburg Police said adverse weather conditions are being blamed for the accident. No charges will be filed in connection with the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
