Police Say Right-of-Way Crash in Buckhannon Left One Injured

May 17, 2011 - Buckhannon, W.Va. - One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon following a crash in Buckhannon that occurred at an intersection.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at the intersection of Route 33 and Brushy Fork Road. According to police, a truck had a green light and was crossing the intersection on Route 33. A white car traveling on Route 33 then attempted to make a left turn onto Brushy Fork Road, crossing in front of the truck.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

A passenger in the pickup truck was injured in the accident. The passenger was transported to St. Joseph's hospital to be treated for head injuries. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The driver of the white car was not injured in the accident. The driver received a citation for failure to yield right of way.

Officials from the Buckhannon Police Department were on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
