Pedestrian Killed when Struck by Car in Malden

July 26, 2011 - Malden, W.Va. - A person was killed early Sunday morning when he or she was struck by a car, in the 3400 block of Kanawha Boulevard, in Malden.

WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. The victim was walking along Kanawha Boulevard when he or she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

According to 911 dispatchers, the pedestrian was killed in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The identity of the driver of the vehicle in question is also unknown.

No further injuries or fatalities have been reported in connection with this accident. There has been no word as to whether or not charges will be filed against the driver.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined as the accident is under ongoing investigation by authorities in Kanawha County.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
