One Killed, Two Injured in Head-On Collision in Nicholas County

July 12, 2011 - Nicholas County W.Va. - A person was killed and 2 more were injured in a serious car crash in Nicholas County.

WSAZ reports that the accident happened Saturday afternoon, on Route 20, in Nicholas County. According to officials, Randal Gregory was driving on the roadway when he lost control of his pickup truck, causing it to cross into the opposite lane of traffic. The pickup truck then collided head-on with another vehicle.

Gregory was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 2 occupants of the other vehicle were injured in the crash. They both had to be transported to Summerville Regional Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The identities of the 2 injured people have not yet been released. Only 2 vehicles were involved in the accident and no further injuries or fatalities have been reported. The crash is under ongoing investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
