One Killed, One Injured in Single Vehicle Accident in Harrison County

May 12, 2011 - Harrison County, W.Va. - One person was killed and another was injured in a single vehicle accident in Harrison County.

WBOY reports that the accident happened early Wednesday morning on Duck Creek Road in Harrison County. Officials from the Harrison County Sheriff's Department said that a 2001 Jeep Cherokee crashed into a tree.

Two people, a man and a woman, were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Both were trapped in the vehicle when emergency crews arrived on the scene. Officials from 4 area fire departments helped to extricate the people.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The woman was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. The extent of her injuries is unknown at this time.

The identities of the two people involved in the accident have not yet been released. Both people were from the Lost Creek area.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
