One Injured, Power Lines Down after Single-Car Crash in Barboursville

April 26, 2011 - Barboursville, W.Va. - A single-car crash in Barboursville injured one person and downed several power lines early Monday morning.

WBOY reports that the accident happened at about 3 a.m. Monday on West Pea Ridge Road in Barboursville. A driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a power pole, downing the attached power lines.

The driver was injured in the crash and had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment. The medical condition of the injured person is unknown at this time.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released.

Only one car was involved in the accident, there were no further injuries.

According emergency dispatchers, power in the area was likely to be affected by the accident. No information was available concerning how many people would be affected.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation by West Virginia State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
