One Dead, One Injured in Fiery Walkersville Truck Accident

May 13, 2011 - Walkersville, W.Va. - One person was killed and another was injured Thursday when a tractor trailer and a pickup truck collided head on.

WBOY reports that the Walkersville truck accident occurred on Route 33 East just over the Randolph-Pendleton county line. According to Troopers, the tractor trailer was driving on the roadway when it allegedly drifted across the center line. It then crashed into a pickup truck head on.

The tractor trailer went off of the roadway and over an embankment, where it caught fire.

Two people were in the tractor trailer at the time of the accident. One of the people was pronounced dead on the scene. The second person was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the accident.

Crews worked for the large part of the day to clean up the 5700 gallons of cooking oil that were spilled from the tractor trailer during the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by West Virginia State Police in Franklin.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
