Marion County Car Accident Hospitalizes 5

August 19, 2011 - Marion County, W.Va. - Five people were sent to the hospital Monday, August 15, following a car accident in Marion County.

WDTV reported on the accident, which happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Swisher Hill,. An elderly man drove his vehicle into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. The pickup truck then hit the elderly man's vehicle, crashing the truck into a guard rail.

Five people were injured in the crash. All 5 victims were transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The victim's identities that were involved in the accident have not yet been revealed. Authorities said that many of the injured were juveniles. So far no further injuries have been reported in connection with this accident.

The elderly man received a traffic citation. The accident is under ongoing investigation by State Police and the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
