Man Suffers Head Injury During Barbour County SUV Rollover Accident

May 13, 2011 - Barbour County, W.Va. - One person was injured Thursday morning when an SUV overturned in Barbour County.

WBOY reports that the Barbour County SUV rollover accident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. Thursday on Route 33 near mile marker 29. Sean Conklin, of Elkins, was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on the roadway when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Conklin then overcorrected, causing the SUV to roll 5 times.

Conklin was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He had to be flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital via Healthnet helicopter. Troopers said Conklin suffered head trauma. Conklin is in good condition according to officials at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The Explorer was the only vehicle involved in the accident and there were no further injuries. The accident is under ongoing investigation by West Virginia State Police.

Officials from the Belington, Coalton and Junior volunteer fire departments as well as Randolph County EMS were on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
