A news story on WDTV states that the incident occurred on Odells Knob Road. The man was evidently driving along the road when he somehow lost control of the ATV, causing it to veer off of the road and over an embankment.
Emergency crews had difficulty getting to the man due to adverse weather conditions.
The man was seriously wounded in the accident. He was transported to a local hospital to seek medical treatment. The name of the victim has not been revealed to the public yet.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. The crash is being investigated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department. Officials with the West Virginia State Police as well as Harrison and Marion County EMS were also on the scene in response to the accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
