WSAZ reports that the incident happened at around 4 p.m., along the Rockhouse Trail System. According to the Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreational Authority, a man was riding an ATV on the trail when he lost control and crashed. Further details of how the accident occurred are not yet available. There were no witnesses.
The man, Nathaniel Dobeck, 28, of Catawissa, Pennsylvania, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He died at the scene.
Officials said that Dobeck was not wearing a helmet when he crashed.
The root of the accident remains to be resolved. The accident is under the stages of investigation by Rangers at the trail.
Accidents such as this may warrant a claim against the property owner or the city. If the grounds are investigated and determined to be unsafe, compensation may be available for those entitled to file a wrongful death claim on behalf of their deceased loved one.
