WSAZ reports that the accident happened at about 9 p.m. on Call Road, near an entrance ramp onto Interstate 77. Officials said that 63-year-old Danny Carpenter, of Sissonville, was travelling on foot on the side of Call Road when he was struck by an oncoming truck. The truck did not stop after hitting him.
Carpenter was killed in the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene before his body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Call Road was blocked to traffic for a few hours after the accident, while crews worked to clean the site and reconstruct the accident.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. The accident remains under investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.
