Man Hospitalized After SUV Crashes in Marion County

August 22, 2011 - Marion County, W.Va. - A man was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon, August 21, following a single-vehicle car accident in Marion County.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on a roadway, near the exit of south Fairmont. An SUV was travelling southbound on the roadway when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV first crashed into the side of a bridge and went on to hit a guard rail before coming to a stop in a roadside culver.

The male driver of the SUV was injured in the accident and had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. He is said to have suffered head injuries. The severity of his injuries is currently undetermined.

The identity of the injured man has not yet been revealed.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by deputies of the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
