August 5, 2011 - Clarksburg, W.Va. - A man was injured Thursday, August 4, when he was struck by a pick-up truck. WBOY reports that the accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Penn Avenue, in the Broadway section of Clarksburg.
The man was walking along the roadway when he was hit by the pick-up truck. The truck driver then fled the scene. The man suffered a badly broken leg as a result of the accident. He had to be flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment on his injuries. His current medical condition is unknown.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released nor has the driver who hit him. Officials said the victim is in his 30s.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. Officials from the Clarksburg Fire Department were also on the scene in response to the accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
