Man Flown to Hospital after ATV Accident in Upshur County

September 7, 2011 - Upshur County, W.Va. - A man was sent to the hospital following and ATV accident Saturday night, September 3.

A WDTV news story reports that the accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Centerville Road, located in the middle of Rock Cave and Princeton. The man was riding his ATV on the road when he lost control and the ATV ran off of the road. The vehicle then overturned.

The man was injured in the accident. He was airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the incident. Officials said that the man's injuries are believed to be severe. The victim's identity has not yet been publically released.

The ATV was the only vehicle involved in the crash and so far no other injuries have been reported.

The accident is under investigation by West Virginia State Police. Officials from the Banks District Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
