Man Dies When Tire Blows Out and Crashes in Summersville

August 3, 2011 - Summersville, W.Va. - A man was killed Monday, August 1, 2011, when his tire blew out in Summersville.

A news story from WBOY reports that the accident happened shortly before 4 p.m. on Route 19, close to the 53.5 mile marker. Ricky Lee Haden, 19, of Fairmont, was driving in his 1994 Plymouth Sundance northbound when one of his tires blew out.

Haden lost control of the vehicle. The Plymouth then traveled across the median and crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic.

Haden suffered fatal injuries in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a news release from the Nicholas County Sheriff's Department, the Plymouth was the only vehicle reported to be involved in the accident. No further injuries or fatalities have been announced in connection with this fatal accident. The accident is under ongoing investigation and is being handled by the authorities of Nicholas County.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
