Injury Sustained in South Charleston DUI Accident

February 1, 2012 – South Charleston, W.Va. – A person was hospitalized following a DUI accident on Friday, January 27.

WSAZ reports that the accident happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. on the Kanawha Turnpike (U.S. 60), nearChestnut Street. Police on the scene said that a silver truck went through a red light and crashed into a green Ford SUV. The SUV had been attempting to make a legal right turn at the intersection.

Due to the impact of the accident, a person was left with injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital after complaining of pain at the scene. The condition of the injured person is unknown at this time.

The driver of the silver truck received a DUI charge in connection with this accident.

The Kanawha Turnpike was shut down for some time following the incident. All lanes have since been reopened.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
