How to Avoid Huge Rise in ATV Fatalities

Summer is here and many people are taking advantage of the sunshine and the heat by getting outside and enjoying some outdoor activities. One dangerous favorite is ATV riding, or four-wheeling. Every summer, the number of ATV-related deaths and injuries rises compared to the rest of the year.

This summer, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) hopes to curb the rate of increasing fatalities by issuing a warning to all ATV riders, advising them to take all necessary safety precautions.

The CPSC release details several ways for ATV riders to enjoy their summer and their vehicles without becoming part of a statistic. One of the primary ways to avoid accidents is to receive proper training before riding an ATV. Training is offered by retailers across the country.

Other ways to avoid unnecessary injury include:

  • wearing a helmet and other protective gear;
  • not putting more passengers on the ATV than it is designed to handle;
  • not driving on a paved road - ATV’s are not designed to handle well on pavement; and
  • not allowing children under 16 to drive your ATV.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an ATV accident, due to a negligent driver or a negligent landowner not properly maintaining the trails or some other cause, there is no reason for you to suffer with your injuries and medical bills on your own. You may be able to gain compensation for your pains.
