Hoover WindTunnel Canister Vacuums Recalled for Shock and Fire Hazards

February 18, 2011 - Vacuum manufacturer Hoover, along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling roughly 142,000 Hoover WindTunnel Canister Vacuums because of potential shock and fire hazards.

According to the CPSC, the product's power cord between the power nozzle and wand connector can short circuit, leading to shock and fire hazards. The manufacturer warns that this short circuiting can still occur even if the vacuum is turned off but still plugged into an outlet.

As of this posting, Hoover had received 69 consumer complaints of electrical malfunctions or overheating concerning the WindTunnel Canister Vacuums. One of those complaints included reports of smoke and fire damage and 2 other reports mentioned carpet damage, as well.

The recalled Hoover vacuums are silver and black and contain a power nozzle. The affected model number is S3755. Consumers can find the product number on the label at the bottom of the canister. The recalled vacuums were sold at a wide variety of retailers nationwide, as well as online from March 2003 to December 2008 and retailed between $250 and $280.
