Head-On Car Crash near Flatwoods Leaves 1 Dead

July 6, 2011 - Flatwoods, W.Va. - A head-on car crash in Braxton County left a woman dead Monday.

WBOY reports that the accident happened on Interstate 79 near Flatwoods in Braxton County. Kristin L. Short, 25, of Elkins, was driving her vehicle on the roadway when she lost control of her car and veered into the opposite lane of traffic. Short's vehicle and another vehicle then collided head-on causing major damages and injuries.

Short died from her injuries she sustained during the car crash. Whether or not the occupants of the other vehicle were injured in the accident is unknown at this time. No further injuries have yet been reported.

The identities of anyone else who may have been involved in the accident have not yet been released.

At this time, whatever may have caused Short to lose control of her vehicle is unknown as investigations connected with this accident are still being handled by West Virginia State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
