Head-On Accident on I-64 in Kanawha County Leaves Victim Injured

December 5, 2011 – Kanawha County, W.Va. – A person was taken to the hospital following an early-morning accident on Saturday, December 3.

WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at about 3:20 a.m. on Interstate 64. The accident report reveals that 2 vehicles collided head on in the westbound lanes of the interstate. Exactly how the accident occurred is unclear at the moment.

A person involved in the accident was reported to sustain injuries and had to be transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. There is no word on the injured person’s condition. The identity of the victim has also not been released yet.

The middle and fast lanes on Interstate 64 were blocked to traffic immediately following the accident. All lanes have since been reopened.

The accident is under the stages of investigation by officials in Kanawha County.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
