Harrison County Single-Car Accident Leaves 1 Dead and 1 Critically Injured

July 20, 2011 - Harrison County, W.Va. - A person was killed and another was critically injured in a single-vehicle car accident early Sunday. WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 3 a.m. on Interstate 79, near the 129 mile marker, in Harrison County.

Jason Claycomb, 38, of Missouri, was driving his Chevrolet 3500 truck on the interstate when the vehicle crashed into the median. Claycomb overcorrected, causing his vehicle to roll several times on the roadway. The occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Claycomb was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. He was pronounced dead shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the hospital. Claycomb's 31-year-old male passenger, who is also from Missouri, was also transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital. His identity has not been released but is said to be in critical condition.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
