Four Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Crash in Sissonville on I-77

May 20, 2011 - Sissonville, W.Va. - Four people were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a crash in Sissonville in Kanawha County.

WBOY reports that the accident happened at about 3 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 77 near mile marker 114, close to Sissonville. Pierre Stancell, 22, of Michigan, was driving southbound in his Chevrolet Cobalt when he lost control of his vehicle.

The Cobalt then traveled across the median and into the opposite lane of traffic, where it collided head on with 2011 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Dorothy Hoemann, 71, of South Carolina.

Stancell, Hoemann and a passenger from each vehicle all had to be transported to a local hospital immediately following the accident. Officials said that all four had suffered serious injuries.

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The accident is under ongoing investigation. All further investigations are being handled by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
