Former Keyser City Councilwoman Dies after Fatal Keyser Accident

Posted on Apr 15, 2011

April 15, 2011 - Keyser, W.Va. - A woman was killed Tuesday morning when her vehicle was struck in Keyser.

The Cumberland Times-News reports that the fatal accident occurred at about 10:13 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Route 220 south of Southern Drive. Sally Burnside, a former Keyser County Councilperson, was driving on the roadway when her vehicle was struck by a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The Dodge struck Burnside's vehicle on the driver's side door.

Burnside and her passenger, Sabrina Juliette Burnside, were injured in the fatal Keyser accident. Both people were transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. The extent of Juliette Burnside's injuries was not given in the article.

Sally Burnside later died in the hospital.

The driver of the Dodge, Harry Miller, was not injured in the crash.

Burnside was a part of the Keyser City Council until 2008. She served two four-year terms.

Officials from the Keyser, McCoole, and New Creek volunteer fire departments as well as Keyser EMS were on the scene in response to the accident. Police are continuing to investigate the fatal Keyser accident, but said "failure to yield" and adverse weather may have played a part.
