According to reports from WSAZ, the accident happened around 12:45 a.m. The vehicle was found flipped over in a ditch after police believe the driver, Caleb Beckner, lost control and drove off Poca River Road, just past Doc Bailey Road.
There were 2 passengers in the vehicle, Derek Herdman and Heather Ashley Brooks, 22, who was killed in the crash. Herdman was not injured, nor was Beckner who was found to be intoxicated at the time of the wreck.
Police have charged Beckner with 2nd offense aggravated DUI and DUI causing the death of his passenger. He was arrested at the scene after Brooks was pronounced dead.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
