WSAZ reports that the accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Winfield Road. The elderly woman was driving on the roadway when she apparently lost control of her vehicle, causing it to crash into a culvert.
The woman suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Officials said that she was 68 years old.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no other passengers in the woman’s vehicle. No further injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies said that the accident could have been caused by a medical condition; however, the accident is continues to be under investigation.
