Driver Hospitalized after Wheeling Single-Vehicle Car Accident

September 7, 2011 - Wheeling, W.Va. - A WBOY news report indicated that a car accident sent a person to the hospital Tuesday, September 6. So far much detailed information is still unclear.

The accident happened on Bethany Pike. A silver Dodge Caliber was travelling on the road when its driver lost control and crashed into a nearby yard. Wheeling police said that they are not certain which direction the vehicle was heading when the accident occurred.

The driver of the Dodge seemed very disoriented when officials arrived at the scene. The driver had to be transported to Wheeling Hospital to be treated for unknown injuries. The driver's identity has not yet been released.

The Dodge was the only vehicle associated with this accident and no further injuries have been reported. The extent of damage to vehicle and property is unknown at this time. The accident is still being investigated by county authorities.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
