Driver Hospitalized after Vehicle Hits Utility Pole in Kanawha County

December 1, 2011 – Kanawha County, W.Va. – A person was injured in an early morning accident on Wednesday, November 30.

A news report on WSAZ indicates that accident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., in the 6100 block of MacCorkle Avenue. According to Metro 911 dispatchers, a vehicle crashed into a utility pole along the roadway. Exact details of how the incident occurred have not been discovered yet.

At least one person sustained injuries as a result of this accident. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of the person’s injuries is unknown at this time.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. No further injuries have been reported.

The crash caused several power lines to come down. Power was out in multiple areas following the accident. Furthermore, the east and westbound lanes on MacCorkle Avenue were blocked to traffic for some time following the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
